Artist Update: Singer-Songwriter Brady SealsFormer Member of Country Group Little Texas Releases New CD
Singer-songwriter Brady Seals found fame fast as a founding member of country super-group Little Texas. These days, he's promoting a new solo album with adult themes.
Singer-songwriter Brady Seals, after a long hiatus from the spotlight, has ventured back onto the country-music scene with a new solo album, Play Time, on a new label, the Pennsylvania-based StarCity Recording Company. According to early reports from Seals’ PR team, the Ohio-born musician’s latest record is “a no-holds-barred celebration of ‘long-legged, half-wasted’ party girls, dance-club debauchery, illicit smoke breaks and a certain prize-winning marijuana crop.” Singer Debuts New CD for Country Fans During CMA Music FestivalThe Play Time CD’s first single, Ho Down, is set for release to country radio on June 29, 2009, with the album slated to drop on Aug. 18, according to a June 8 press release from publicist Amy Willis. In the meantime, though, Seals—a former co-lead singer for still-touring, country-rockers Little Texas, a platinum-selling act now celebrating its 20th anniversary, as well as a one-time frontman for Hot Apple Pie—will introduce fans to the new CD and its debut Ho Down track during the 2009 CMA Music Festival in Nashville on June 11-14, per Willis. Interestingly, the album also has its own mascot, "Rabbit Boy," who will make appearances at Seals' events, where the life-size critter will pass out copies of the Ho Down dance remix. Country Singer-Songwriter Brady Seals Gains Creative FreedomMeanwhile, on the artist-produced Play Time, Seals—in a June 8, 2009, e-mail communication—said that he scored a level of creative control he’d never yet seen, thanks to label heads Jeff Glixman, producer and engineer, and musician-songsmith Jim Gentile. Consequently, the disc is dripping with Seals at every turn, from song selection and choice of studio musicians, he has noted, to experimenting with various Nashville studios for the recording process. "There's no question of this being a really adult record," Seals shared."It gets raunchy and raw. But I've always wanted to make music that affects people. Love it, hate it. But you can't ignore it." New Country Music Project Features Songwriting by Guest-Star MusiciansThe forthcoming CD, which marks Seals’ producer debut, includes songs penned by pop-star Richard Marx and Stan Lynch, drummer for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Both musicians also played on separate tracks on the Play Time project, as did the Hot Apple Pie players. If initial download reports are any indicator of the CD's pending success at country radio and with fans, Brady is off to a promising start. The Ho Down tune, currently available via download only, recently was the No. 1 most-downloaded song, according to Nashville-based Country Aircheck's top-five listing. In turn, some have predicted that Play Time is positioned to become Seals' most successful solo outing to date.
